the Productivity Tools have an API right now. You can download that with the public beta. That API is something IBM designed and is closer to html then something you would be used to with Word or OOO. That API is driven from Eclipse. I also believe that you can use UNO, the standard OOO API, from Eclipse as well right now. You can also use any development technique within Notes to create and ODF document and launch that directly. Ben Langhendrics has been showing that off. This requires that the PT be the LAST ODF office suite installed ... it takes over the default odf extensions.

The piece I demoed at Lotusphere that will be added in 8.0.1 (nothing official) is the IBM will register the PT UNO com objects so that you can drive them from LotusScript. I demoed LotusScript code that was written for OOO that worked without any changes. The big issue here is that IBM has to register the COM objects as if they were OOO on the machine, and that requires even more testing.

As for the user integration pieces, there has been much discussion on them. I have been asking about things such as a PT Document Library, the Send to within the products, an easy way to embed objects in Rich Text fields, and so on. I will let IBM comment on those features.

For 8.0.0, the PT will act more like an another program that replaces Office functionality then included tools for us to build applications with. Things will get better, but IBM has to start somewhere. And do not worry, they have heard for over a year on where we all want this to go ... very loudly :-)
